The Artist
& the Maker

The artist Speed Gold usually chose living subjects: plants, animals, people. In paintings, drawings and even sculpture, she captured something of their inner spirit.

Kathryn Bennett, Speed’s daughter, designed and made stuffed toys and dolls—first for her children and then to sell through select gift shops.

Speed and Kathryn decided to collaborate. The result is Kozi Dolls.

Hocking Hills Garment Center
Buchtel, OH

We are Hawking Hills Garment Center. A social enterprise in southeast Ohio helping rebuild America’s apparel manufacturing workforce.

In a restored 1890s church we are training a new generation of highly skilled industrial sewists while creating meaningful careers in our community. Making the Kozi dolls was more than a production project, it was an opportunity to put our mission into practice—creating beautiful products, investing in people, and proving that thoughtful manufacturing can strengthen communities.

Every Kozi Doll begins with a story and we are honored to be a part of it.
